Circle Vert

The best cycle rides in all of Canada

Cape Breton National Park – Is located on the northern end of Nova Scotia on an island in the Atlantic provinces and has some people with some of the greatest love of music in the world.  Your bicycle touring would take you to a 300 km (185 mile) coastal road that has a lot of uphill climbs and also corresponding down hills. And there are some excellent views along this amazing coastline. Checking out nearby attractions such as the Louisbourg Fortress and also the Alexander Bell Historic Site can quite easily make you go double the distance.

Confederation Trail- is located on Prince Edward Island this 270 kilometer (168 mile)rail trail is from tip to tip on a hard packed surface. A lot of those who are bicycle touring make an effort to take the more quiet roads and extensions to create a circle route.  You will be seeing quaint harbors, lighthouses, great beaches and maybe even the Anne of Green Gables show.

Montreal to Quebec City- This begins from the historic old port in Montreal follow La Route Verte 5 eastward.  This is part of over 4,000 km (2,485 miles) of signed bikeways that are in the province.  Your route will take you right along the north shore of the St. Lawrence and through Trois-Riveres to Quebec City. With the thought of a circle route in mind, then go ahead to the south shore of the St. Lawrence River and going through the Eastern Townships for a return that will be longer.  This signed route has both paved and hard packed sections.

Waterfront trail- This starts in Niagara and expect it to take a week while bicycle touring to the Quebec border and maybe even keep going on to Montreal. As you go along your way you will see historic forts in Kingston, Lake Ontario and Niagara-on-the-Lake;orchards; the fantastic city of Toronto and many small lakeside towns.

Icefields Highway- this route begins in Banff and then goes on north to to Jasper National Park and you will be going through some of the most beautiful majestic scenery this world has to offer. As well as the big horn sheep and elk you can expect to see the Columbia  Icefields and a lot of waterfalls.  But of course the main reason is to see the amazing mountains on each side of you.  The highway has paved shoulders and expect to have a major climb on your way.

Golden Triangle- there are a lot of routes that go through the Canadian Rockies. This is quite a short route that begins in Banff and has a major climb that goes over the continental divide to Golden in British Colombia. One good thing is that there is paved shoulders during this difficult climb. You get back via other mountains roads to finish the triangle.  Some other popular choices are going south to Waterton Lakes/Glacier National Park in the US or north to Jasper.

Gulf Islands- These islands that sit right in the middle of  Vancouver and Victoria are just made for you to explore.  You will get there by ferry and then you would be boarding in a bed and breakfast. Check out the quaint towns art galleries, it is quite a change of lifestyle on the islands.

If you are not the greatest at planning there are guided tours of all the routes that are listed above. If you are thinking about going on a tour in Canada consider these routes as a really good introduction to the country.
