Color can definitely give life to anything. Among other things, it is used to express emotions, energy, and thoughts. The use of color provides the background for any design element in a particular room or space.
Picking out the ideal color for your wall can make or break the general look and atmosphere of the room. Thus it is important that you make the best choices when it comes to wall colors. Many times, any furniture or accessories that you place in the room will be chosen based upon the color you paint your walls.
Also, the color of any wall decor, whether wire wall art, metal wall hanging, framed pictures or butterfly metal wall art, will also be affected by the wall colors.
There are certain tips that you can use to assist you in your decision and to create the perfect wall.
Bring samples with you
If you have a pre-conceived notion about the color that you desire for your walls, then you can certainly select that color. However, most of the time we choose our colors based on an inspiration or reference material like a fabric, painting or paper.
To help you get a particular color though a reference material or if you want to know which color will work best on certain fabrics then it is advisable that you bring a sample of your reference material. This will give the paint store or hardware store an idea on what shade you are referring to. Swats of textiles are great reference materials. You might also consider bringing with you a picture of your inspiration. By doing this, you will are able to choose the colors of the other elements in your room or space like the bed linens, curtain, rugs or art wall decor. Just remember that wall paint color may not end up with the same shade as that of your reference material since paint solution reacts differently to materials.
Painting the trim
Always make sure to give contrast in colors. This will give your space depth and texture. You should never, ever paint a room completely in the color red from ceiling to floor! Painting the trim is the best way to add contrast in colors without needing to paint a big section of the room. Paint the door frames, window panes, or moldings in the space. In this way, you are introducing another color in the room and at the same time giving you that contrast.
Wall or Furniture First
You can select a wall color in a couple of different ways. First, you can either choose the wall color first and get the rest of the items in the room later on it basing the colors on your wall. You may also opt to do it the other way around. You can select your furniture first and then choose the wall color you want.
Completing the walls
A wall paint color is not finished just by painting the entire walls. A “finish” is an important factor in wall painting. A finish can enhance the color of the wall, give texture or shine. You can select from semi-gloss, matte, or flat finishes for your walls.
Select a base color
A base color is the undertone hue of any color. Prior to choosing wall paint, make sure you understand the base color of the paint. A paint can have orange, red, green, or brown undertones to mention a few. The subdued colors that go with other colors near the color in the color spectrum. For example, a paint with orange undertones will complement great with brown, green, pink etc.
Studying the colors
It is best practice to have a good understanding of the colors. Once you have understood how colors work, why some colors work well together more than with another and why it brings out certain emotions then it will be easier to decide which wall color you should get.
