The ViewSonic PJD5122 projector offers outstanding value and performance, sleek black design and up-to-date features and specifications.A general look at the specs is a good way to begin our briefing.
- Resolution: SVGA 800×600 (Native) / SXGA 1280×1024 (compressed) Looking at the first aspect on this list, let’s get out of the way one of the only slightly under-achievements of this fantastic otherwise projector. Understandable since blueray and HD were invented, being the next best thing in video technology, they have a huge pull on peoples interests. But to the contrary, the resolution is not a disadvantage unless you are a pure Blueray and HD buff. For use with all other applications including DVD and X-Box compatible. The resolution according to one happy user was no disadvantage. He states: “Initially, I was a little worried that the 800 x 600 SVGA resolution was going to be sub-par. After setting it up, the picture was terrific; probably as good as my Epson 1024 x 768 XGA projector from about 13 feet away (fills up about a 100 inch screen).”
- Brightness: 2700 Lumens and 3000:1 CR, 0.55 Digital Micromirror Device. This is comparable with the best vividness and luminescence of most good brands and is more than sufficient for lighting up even during day-time. User-Comment: “I was very surprised how bright the picture was, even in a dimly lit room.”
- Manual focus and zoom (1.1X), Multiple inputs (Inc. RGB Out)
- Keystone correction. A great for correction of picture shape when placed upside-down on the ceiling.
- 5 Watt Integrated Speaker: Internal speaker helps with centre-sound balance/ambiance.
- Lamp life: 4000/6000 hrs (Normal/Economy) A huge life for a relatively cheaply priced projector. This model has up to three times the bulb life-time than that of many other popular models such as my Panasonic.
- BrilliantColor™ technology: Not left behind the pack, the PJD5122 sports the Latest BrilliantColor™ technology delivering stunning clarity with life-like color, sharp graphics, and high clarity video. The step-above 5-segment color (RGBWY) wheel provides greater color accuracy than standard DLP projectors that use only 4-segment color wheels.
- Eco-mode extends lamp life Extend the life of your lamp up to 6,000 hours and reduces noise output for quieter operation while viewing.
- Picture modes. Picture modes, of which there are 8 to choose from, include whiteboard, blackboard and cinema.
- For the mid-range projector user, there are sufficient input/output sockets available. Connectivity includes two RGB inputs and one RGB output.
- 3D DLP Link ready – Supports up to 120Hz frame rate A PIN lock feature enables password protected access for security.
- ”Off to Go” direct off feature. Turn it off immediately without a cool down phase.
Some additional customer feedback:
Review source: ViewSonic PJD5122 SVGA DLP Projector -120Hz/3D Ready, 2500 Lumens, 3000:1 DCR (Electronics) After much research and analysis of available projectors I came to the conclusion that the entry level models available today are better than the mid range models of just a little over a year ago. I wanted to have a movie night in the backyard for our kids birthday parties and I purchased this viewsonic projector to do just that. Projecting an image on a sheet worked great with a clear bright picture. Although the resolution was only 800×600, the picture looked very Sharp and lots of people at the party asked about the projector because they were so impressed with how it looked. I’m so glad that I didn’t buy a more expensive projector to get better resolution or more lumens as this Viewsonic did a great job.
Review source: ViewSonic PJD5122 SVGA DLP Projector -120Hz/3D Ready, 2500 Lumens, 3000:1 DCR (Electronics) I’m a youth leader with a large group of kids and it’s just impossible to get them all in front of a TV screen anymore. This unit is not only inexpensive and easy to use, it also projects a very large, crisp image on the wall of the gymnasium we meet in. Connecting it to my sound system was a breeze and it connects easily with my laptop and a stand-alone DVD player. The projector is light, and does not have the heft and feel of quality, but for $369 I know that I will get what I pay for. We will take the extra measures to handle it with care. I have no idea how long it will last, but I trust the ViewSonic name and so far I am a very happy customer.
Benefits and Conclusion:
Weighing a little over 5 pounds the PJD5122 is compact and extremely portable, being ideal for taking along to presentations.
The ”Off to Go” direct off feature allows on-the-go users to simply unplug the projector and port it immediately without waiting for a cool down phase to complete. Another advantage of this feature is that it will protect the projector from damage in the case of a power outage.
I know from experience that having a quality projector has payed off for me in the past. Having used a Panasonic for Three years now, I have come to appreciate that what you pay for, you get.
Just a few years back projectors were double, triple and even quadruple today’s’ cost, the technology of which was still in its primary stages while LCDs and Plasma screens were the popular choice.A projector was still then in my opinion a far greater value for money investment as they cost around $2500.00 minimum for the better brands and had a screen size two or three times as large. After your bulbs’ life runs out, you would only then have to replace it.
My Panasonic has already had a replacement and is half way to it’s third bulb as its replacement time is 2000hours. Since they are $500.00 each to replace, within four years it will owe me $3500.00.Now for a picture that has up to 2.8metres diagonally at 1080pixel clarity and is HDMI compatible, that’s still not too expensive since back then your 100inch plasmas were around 5-8 thousand dollars.
Coming back to the Viewsonic PJD5122 projector, you’ve got greater brightness than my Panasonic by 700 lumens, (mind you the Panasonic is pretty bright), 5 segment color wheel technology, up to 6000hours bulb life under $200.00 to replace) and no need to wait for cool-down process (like my Panasonic) when you turn it off and take it to your friends’ place to watch the footy! And the whole projector all for less than $370.00 which is about $130 cheaper than my Panasonics’ bulb alone. We mean for such a low price, if the warranty happened to expire just before it blew up, you’d just accept it and buy another, and still be in front.
Admittedly it won’t support blue-ray level picture-quality and is only 800×600 pixel picture detail, but that’s still better than a lot of TV’s and when you see it in full screen you don’t worry about it unless you specifically need the HDMI standard. It’s definately a steal for what it is. If you’re looking for a great value quick projector purchase, don’t let this get by you. It’s packed with value for the low price Viewsonic are asking for them. How do they make money and still provide warranty, who knows? All you need to know is that you won’t be dissapointed with the value you get for your dollar with the Viewsonic SVGA projector, if this is all you need in a projector.
